Tompkins, why you be so short?

Here's my new little shadow...he's followed me everywhere all morning. He even tried to get in the shower with me, but quickly fled when he discovered that there was water in it. And he is purring on my lap as I type.

Last night, we discovered that kittens don't understand the concept of night...as in, sleeping all night. When we went to bed he was ready to play, then we finally got him to calm down and leave us alone. Which lasted until 2 am, when he attacked my head. And there was no sleeping in for me this morning, even though I'm off! But he is a cutie and so playful and curious---at least we think its a he...he's so teeny-tiny that's it's uh, kinda hard to tell for sure.  But the name is sticking, now matter what we figure out.

Now I know some of you...possibly all of you...are saying "why? why must you get a cat?" Well, we've been planning on getting one ever since we were married, once we had a house. I grew up with a cat (though we still have a love-hate relationship) and Tyler somehow has developed a liking for them, in moderation. Plus, we really wanted a pet but we don't think it's fair to get a puppy and keep it cooped up in the house all day while we're at work. (So once Tyler works from home, or I'm staying at home, we'll get one of those!) But there's plenty of room to explore for this little kitty.

So, we've been looking into getting one once we got into our house. But then yesterday Jen and Casey called from a horse show they were at and said that there was a woman there with free kittens. We like free. Plus, he's litter-box trained and came from a house with 4 kids, so he has been loved on a ton and loves people.

And that is how Tompkins (named for my TGS) came to live in the Shaw household. And I'm sorry, I have no idea why all the pictures are going to the left...they weren't supposed to.

Aww, he's so cute! I, as you know, am not a cat lover, but I am a total sucker for Kittens!! If only they stayed that small. And Tompkins is a perfect name.
