Friday Favorite: Recently Read Books

I am a big time reader. I learned to read at age 5 and was quickly reading everything I could get my hands on. That's what I did as a hobby when I was growing up--read. I was kind of a nerd. I miss the days of just sitting around reading a good book all day, but I still try to keep it a priority, even though my time is more limited. Luckily I read pretty fast. I typically have at least 4-5 library books (a couple are usually cookbooks or decorating books, not all long, regular ones) on my desk that I'm reading through or are waiting to be read. Normally I am a one-book-at-a-time kind of reader. I go to the library once a week to switch things out and have a running "to read" list on my phone that currently has 134 books on it. Any time I hear of/read about/see something interesting, I add it to the list. The great thing about the library is that if it's a disappointing book, I don't feel bad quitting in the middle. I love my library. That is an entirely different post.

Here's a few favorites from the past several months:

My mom-in-law gave me One Thousand Gifts for Valentine's day. God has really used this book to change the way I view my life. I love it. Read it!

The Help is probably the best novel I've read in a long time. It was so good and very, very thought-provoking. I pretty much read it every spare second I had until I finished, much to the detriment of my house. I liked it that much!

I read Adopted for Life a few months ago, after it sitting on my book list for quite awhile. And I really loved it. I think everyone should read it, even if they don't think they feel called to adopt. It shows the parallel of adopting children into our families and our own adoption into the family of God in a way I had never really understood or thought of before. Seriously, everyone should read it.

Awhile back I added a list of what I've read for this year and a partial one from last year to my sidebar. I mostly did this because I love this on other friends' blogs---shout out to Bek! I love seeing what they are reading and getting ideas of what I want to check out. That being said, I don't necessarily recommend every book on my list. I have a 1-5 star rating next to the title, so that reflects some of my opinion on the book. But still, use your own discernment obviously!

Happy reading!

You know me, up early milking cows, taking 12 mile runs, reading the book of Leviticus...

Actually I wrote this a few days ago and scheduled it to post this morning and must have picked 4am for some reason!

Thanks MEG! I did get The Help at the library, the wait was a bit longer than usual, but I'd rather wait and save $15! Actually our library had Adopted for Life too, which was rather surprising!
