Wedding Day

It really was a perfect day. Even before she had her hair and makeup done, she was glowing. We watched a rerun of Ellen while she was getting her nails done...

...and marveled that the huge Great Dane at the hair salon, while watching her amazing stylist, Emmy, whip her hair into something lovely in hardly any time.

Anne Marie, MB, and I sang "Going to the Chapel" five times in a row on the way to the church. She kept randomly squealing "I'm getting married!"

I kept bugging her to eat cause she was too excited to want anything. Elmarie did her makeup.

She put on her dress. I grabbed her veil and we all helped put it on and all the sudden she was a bride. The most beautiful bride ever. She had this elegance to her I've never seen another girl have. At one point at the reception, Meg and I watched her talking to people and Meg remarked that she looked like a queen. It was true.

As I grabbed Tyler's arm to take our turn walking down the aisle, I turned for one last look at my best friend, Marybeth Longtine. At the top of the aisle I nearly lost it--I let out an audible sob and then squeezed Ty's arm and switched to a smile.

The ceremony went by quickly.

My favorite moment was when after communion, Ben spend some time whispering in her ear. The sweetness of that, plus glancing up to see Tyler staring at me across the stage and smiling made me wipe away a couple tears. I never cry in weddings. Those couple tears were a first. Most of the other bridesmaids were sniffing away.

All the sudden, she was Marybeth Wood. A new name for my old friend--it sounds strange yet wonderful to me. The bridesmaids made jungle animal noises during the kiss, but they were drowned out by the cheering from the audience.

They had joked about her riding piggy-back down the aisle and then they actually did it! It was so cute!

After the ceremony was rather a blur. We had some cake at church, headed to DU to take pictures, made our grand entrance, ate, watched the first dances, began to dance ourselves, "Ain't No Mountain" played and the four of us girls danced together as we always do, I tried to comfort AM about our upcoming toasts, while feeling freaked out myself. All the sudden Jordan was calling me up there. I actually felt really calm and did well until I got to the part about "...in what seems like the blink of an eye, here we are." and then I got really choked up as I had a mental flashback to sitting in my bedroom as 12 year olds, dreaming about being brides and wondering about who we'd marry. It really did seem like yesterday. But, I managed to make it through the rest. Then there was more dancing. "Single Ladies" came on, MB threw her bouquet from the balcony and Elmarie and I tried, without avail,  to steal it from the single girls. (We had a theory that if we caught it, we could have a second wedding reception and new dresses.) Then it was time for them to go. AM and I ran to the end of the line and got to hug and kiss her and whisper quick goodbyes as she and Ben ran off to the parking garage. Then Meg, Britt and I stood together, holding hands, as we watched for their car to drive away. We stood there for a while after they were gone. Thinking about our best friend, about the past and about the future...and, um, making up songs about where they were going. Haha. That was one of my favorite moments of the whole wedding.

I don't have any pictures of the reception--I was too busy having a great time, but for a sneak peek of the pro pics, check out Lizelle's blog. They look amazing!

Mindy, have you ever thought of writing a book or something? You had me in tears just reading your post. You all looked so beautiful!

Awww thanks Jen! I've always loved words--and writing things with them--I thought about majoring in journalism before deciding that dropping out would be even more fun! ;-)

There's a set of stories I wrote for Megan when we were young floating out there somewhere, actually. But other than that, I just stick to this blog for now--maybe someday!
