Calling all mothers...

I have begun the surprisingly daunting task of figuring out what I want/need for our little man, working on a registry, etc. And dang, there are waaay too many options and things! It's rather overwhelming. I searched Target.com for bouncy seats and got like 100 results. Same for highchairs, pack n plays, pumps. (speaking of those, man, they are expensive! But it's not really something I'd prefer to get on craigslist!) Wading through it all is a wee bit scary.

I think part of what overwhelms me most is I would tend toward the more minimalistic side baby gear-wise. I remember when my youngest siblings were babies and them not having lots of "stuff." And our living room and the baby's room aren't huge, so I don't want things I don't need.

So, all you moms out there, (non-moms may give opinions too, I like all input) what would you say are your essential baby items? What can't you live without or are your favorites? And what did you end up getting but not using? I know this can vary baby to baby and also depends on your style as a mom, but I'm interested to hear your thoughts!

As a reward for these forth-coming tips, I am posting this picture that I don't really love, featuring my growing self--as well as an unmade bed and clothes on the floor. It's not a great picture, but gives the general idea of how very round I've become.

Please try to focus on the belly and not the awkward concentrating face. I'll try to get Tyler to take a better one soon!

I'll call you to tell you all my helpful tips. =) But I wanted to tell you that I got my pump used and it's not what you think...You buy new tubes and shields and stuff and basically the only used thing you're getting is the machine. It's very sanitary. I'll explain it to you when I call. It can save you a bundle. love ya!

From the most frugal mom in the world, I present my list...
Sleeping: A bed, and a pack and play for trips
Containers to keep baby/safe happy so you can actually get work done: above mentioned pack and play, a Mo wrap or other such device, a small stroller.
Eating: a highchair (not needed until they are old enough to eat, which was a long time coming in our house) I never had a pump
I think that totals 5 things. I considered all other items unnecessary even though I may have had a few other things given to me over the years. But I admit I was cheap.

there are a LOT of things that you don't need at all that is for certain.

I didn't register for much because I just wanted the basics and when you register for all the stuff, you tend to get it.

Here are some of the things that I loved and some that I registered for.

Several different sizes of diapers
Wipes
Baby Monitor
dekor or diaper champ - diaper pail
Diaper Depot (LOVE this - I like to organize)
Sterlite show offs - storage of toys and extras
Baskets to organize in the closet
Nursing pads
Bassinet/pack-n-play
car seat and extra base(I didn't have an extra, but it would have been nice - my sister and I share the car seats)
baby sling
backpack for hiking with your baby later
A handmade "high chair" that straps to chairs and is portable for the diaper bag
Love-me-downs are the next best thing ever. What a blessing for certain.

You can find LOTS of stuff on freecycle. I got a swing, stollers, highchairs, bassinets, etc on there. LOVE FREE

If I think of other stuff, I will let you know.

If there is anything that you would like to borrow from us, I would love to share with you. I know it was a great blessing for us as we transitioned to one income.

Hmmmm what you need for baby?

Geez, I don't really know & I had FOUR of them. I do know that you don't need nearly as much as you think you do, so don't fret.

You probably will need a bottle of wine, so consider registering for that.

About the pump, I had an inexpensive electric pump that served its purpose very well: occasional pumping. I can't remember the brand... I got it at Wally World. Don't go out & buy those Gucci double pumps that come with a leather suitcase, chrome rims & all that.

Yay for babies!
