Bubble, bubble, flooding trouble...
Last night Tyler and I came home from work and were just sitting on the couch, trying to figure out what to do for our date night. Then there came an anxious pounding on the door. It was a maintenance person from the apartment, saying that the apartment below us had water leaking through the ceiling and they needed to check our bathroom. (Which we hadn't been in since arriving home.) As the lady walked into the hall to the bathroom, water began squishing out of the carpet. Yes...bad sign. There was like 3 inches of water on the floor of our bathroom and the entire hallway was soaked as well. The great mystery of this is that it was caused by our toilet overflowing. But when I left for work at 9, after spending an hour getting ready in the bathroom, there had been no sign of toilet trouble. In fact no one had used the toilet since 7:30 that morning. (Hope that's not TMI) So I guess it just spontaneously overflowed...weird. But anyhow, the blessing of this was, none of our belongings got wet other than the rugs which are washable. And, the apartment people cleaned all the water up, so all we had to do was clean the bathroom later--which I made sure we did thoroughly with bleach and disinfectant---I'm paranoid about germy water, even though it was "clean" it had still been in the toilet and that alone makes it gross to me. I actually felt kind of bad as I was sitting on the couch, watching the people suck up all the water...it was my bathroom, it seemed like I should be helping somehow! So, we ended up having a more exciting evening than planned and never got to having a date...oh well, there's always a different day! Now we just are waiting to see if they need to replace the carpet and possibly some of the bathroom flooring---the carpet is still wet and smells musty. Life is never dull!
